You show up
unbidden, unsought
like the weather
like Orion across
the winter’s skies, like
daffodil greens in early spring
pushing through the mud
and suddenly I remember
what I’d forgotten:
that you are joy and beauty
and love and life; that you
are unswayed by the storm;
that you do not sleep
through the long winter;
that you are faithful
at dawn, at dusk,
at midday and midnight.
So foolish of me to have doubted,
to have thrown up my hands
in despair to see you again.
Arrive at your leisure,
my God and my Heart, and I
will wait in the confidence
of your presence.
