Issues

For twelve years
plus three, O LORD,
my heart has been bleeding
and for the same season
I did not believe
it could heal.

For twelve years
plus three, O LORD,
my heart has been breaking
and for the same season
no one would touch it
lest they break too.

For twelve years
plus three, O LORD,
my heart has been suffering
and for the same reason
you spoke to it:
“Have faith.”

Too many years,
bleeding and broken.
I have issues, O LORD.
Mend my rent heart
by your grace
to peace.

Stay a little longer with us, Jesus.
The night is long and our hope is fleeting.

Stay a little longer with us, Jesus.
The world is raging and our strength is faltering.

Stay with us, Jesus,
to give us courage
for the all-consuming fire
to whip through our lives.

Stay with us, Jesus,
to teach us stories
of heaven’s mysteries
to renew our resolve.

Stay with us, Jesus,
to show us visions
that startle our lives
to worship and wonder.

Stay a little longer with us, Jesus.
The call is immense and our commitment is imperfect.

Stay a little longer with us, Jesus.
The light is overwhelming and our hearts are full.

Salvation

Healing Savior,

Our world is corrupt,
our bodies are fainting,
our relationships are strained.
Salvation seems distant.

Yet you created this world for beauty
and your body gave witness to life
and your love restored community.
Salvation is always at hand.

So splinter our vanities & violences
and stitch the pieces of our hearts
together to pound again with joy
until salvation endures forever.

Amen.
