I need you.

As simple as that…
if only I didn’t hate so much
to be in need, didn’t
fight so much against
all that you are and all that you
provide.

As simple as that…
if only you didn’t
frustrate me so eternally and
elude me so very faithfully.

I wonder why we
put up with each other
— like a bad relationship
I would never recommend —
you so withdrawn yet so needy,
me with fits of anger and
bursts of cursing.
I don’t need these doubts of you
that deplete my energy;
you don’t need
my drama

yet here we are.

Still.

You are unfair:
you draw me to you,
claiming my affections
my talents, my time,
and I can do nothing about it.

If only I could walk away,
but I need you.
I need this grace of yours.
As simple as that.
