You are not like other gods, who leave us to our own devices without shedding a tear when we cry out in realization of what we’ve done.

You do not abandon us in the night, losing track of time while you cavort with the Seven Sisters, forgetting to herald the dawn and relieve us from our nightmares.

You do not forget your purpose even when you are high on the incense of our praise, remembering instead the work of turning of the world toward healing.

You are not like other gods, whose hearts are not bound by love but rather caught up in pride and gratification, whose reputations are not at stake in humanity.

You do not surrender in fear to the powers of Evil and Death, determined instead to disrupt Evil with endless grace, to convert Death with radical life.

You do not favor power and prestige, though we continue to solicit your deference with our bribes and theologies; without fail you preference the cast-out and disenfranchised.

You are not like other gods, who live unto themselves without tempering their whims or their anger, without minding their impact on those who love them.

How good it is, Most Holy God, that you are not!
