Hear my prayer, captured in candlelight:
for harmonies to rise up in the world
like a multilingual chorus;
for abundant wellsprings to bubble up
in dry and trampled-down places;
for comfort — close, hand-holding comfort —
to those who are sick in hospitals and at home;
for unfailing presence and unsleeping watch
by the sides of those in mourning;
for spring once more to break through
the dull days and long nights of winter.
Hear my prayer, O Bright Evening Star;
like subtle heat rising from a candle,
draw me closer to you tonight.
