Be amazed, o my soul,
to have witnessed Life today.
Whisper the words of hope
that the winds shared
after Death’s visit.
Take now your
weariness
and lean into
the silent hymn of
a rolled-away stone:
“I am open again! No more
will Death echo here.” Sweet relief,
sighs my soul, to witness Life.
You are good, O my God,
in your works of Life each day.
You are beyond belief in
the knitting together
& the renewing.
How can it
be
that your
lively possibilities
surmount even Death?
“I am unending! I am always!”
My soul awes to say so: O my God,
you are wholly unparalleled.
“Take now your weariness and lean into the silent hymn of a rolled-away stone”
I love the poetry and beauty in this line, Rachel. And your gentle references to hymns of Easter praise. Thank you.
How amazing it is
that words evaporate like the early morning mist
that silence wraps the truth of love in rich story
that slow steps transform into the rhythm of dance
that gentle harmonies rise from the earth herself.
Rising like wheat that springeth green.
How amazing that so persistent is the song of life, it sounds even from the hollow space of the grave.
It sounds out woundedness, grief and loneliness.
It sounds out justice, mercy, faithfulness and courage.
It sounds out the glory that is friendship and love.
So, dance then, wherever you may be.
“‘I am the Lord of the Dance,’ said he.” 🙂
I especially love your line: “How amazing that so persistent is the song of life…” and the lyrical lines that follow.
Thanks for writing through Lent, Hilary!
🙂
He has risen!
And this changes everything…
my past
my present
my future
all gloriously
redeemed
made new
and clothed in hope
Hallelujah
He has risen!
Hallelujah and amen!
