In preparation for Holy Week:
Give me courage to be wholly attentive:
glad to celebrate what is coming,
open to the lesson,
willing to witness pain,
careful to recognize turmoil,
surrendering to allow for mystery,
understanding that the Spirit moves even now, even here.
Give me courage to be Holy-attentive:
glad to celebrate What Is Coming,
open to the Lesson,
willing to witness Pain,
careful to recognize Turmoil,
surrendering to allow for Mystery,
understanding that the Spirit moves even now, even here.
Saving God, give me courage to be wholly attentive.
Hold me in stillness lest busyness distract.
Keep me looking in the eyes of those who feel ignored.
Hold me as I face the ugliness of condemning the other.
Keep me from believing my salvation comes from pleasing everyone else.
Hold me in the imperfection of myself.
Keep me from letting my gaze wander from the sight ahead ..
Of the light of hope and celebration that is just a moment’s horizon away.
