How very good and pleasant it is
when kindred live together in unity!
It is like a pianist
pouring beauty into the world
with every note, with every
phrase rehearsed, reworked,
with every scale
spilled deliciously
into a song
like a mountain stream
tumbling out over its banks
with the fullness of spring rains.
How very good and pleasant it is
when kindred live together in unity!
It is like a woman
quietly brushing her hair
indulging in the joy
of undivided
being,
a moment
without fracture
and contortion from life’s
carnival mirrors;
at peace with herself.
How very good and pleasant it is
when kindred live together in unity!
Let there be peace, all over the earth.
Let there be a gathering down by the riverside, to sit and be close to the gentle flow of water.
Let there be a coming together, a laying down of busyness.
As the regular rhythm of oars pierce the water’s silver surface, as the white swans’ broad wings ride the currents of the air, may peace break through into this day.
Let there be a community of pilgrims, walking into this day, noticing the details of street and town, of park and hill, of pavement and path.
Let footsteps echo around the city, of friendship and faith.
Let there be an unlocking of the stories of those who felt they had nothing to say.
Let there be a listening and a caring, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Let there be peace, all over the earth.
Amen!
