It is time
Let the spirits of Kimani and Trayvon call out
It is time
Let the mourners of Kasandra and “Nirbhaya” demand
It is time
Let the indignation of the LORD be heard in the protest
It is time
For life to be valued as life, male and female and trans
Now
It is time
For brown & black & tan bodies to be venerated not violated
Now
It is time
For the Spirit to agitate against power that abuses flesh
Now
It is time
To name our violence and atone for our silence
Now
It is time
To trust women and confess ignorance of “other”
Now
It is time
To believe that Christ is broken without the fully-included body
Now
It is time
Now

Every day I look for the signs:
Where do you need me?
Where do you want me?
What direction are you taking me?
Am I even using the right map?
I want to be where you need me,
yet I am uneasy, uncomfortable
Then I remember
I’m not home yet
I’m supposed to be uneasy
Uncomfortable
I’m not supposed to see the map
But I know my final destination.
I must trust that your gentle nudges
(2x4s to the head)
Will keep me on your path
As I continue to navigate this crazy world.
Amen. (Also, ouch!)
Is it close at hand?
Am I truly seeing the faint light
at the end of the tunnel?
Were those not Your whisperings today–
that healing is on the horizon?
I will keep my eyes focused
alert to
spring’s dawning
in the depth of my spirit
I will trust
that these dim rays
of light
are Your
gift of hope to me
Amen.
Tree branches wave enthusiastically to the wind’s song and the snowflake accompaniment. Moments of sunlight in the cold, cold day, yet blossom is spreading. Beneath the ice on the pond, the frogs bide their time. What signs are these? What season is emerging? A movement back into winter, or into spring?
In times of uncertain transition, disturbing Spirit, blow through our lives and breathe in us courage and peace.
Such great poetry & natural scenery in your recent posts, Hilary!
Rachel, thank you for your powerful psalm calling out for justice. It has such a strong rhythm and feels like a great song of protest.
Thanks, Hilary.
