Praise

Let us do what is right, with prayer and praise:

We rejoice in your renewal, O Creator
alleluia, amen
and we celebrate the labor to which we are called.

We rejoice that we are not surrendered to death
— alleluia, amen —
and we celebrate your name on this day.

We preach the women’s witness, O Christ
— alleluia, amen —
and we testify to the grace of life.

We preach the tears through which we recognize you
— alleluia, amen
and we testify to your glory to spite death.

We claim the resurrection power of freedom, O Spirit
— alleluia, amen —
and we heed the call to tend vineyards instead of lynching trees.

We claim the healing of your steadfast love
— alleluia, amen —
and we heed the trembling of earth to bless all creation.

Let our praise be unbounded, alleluia and amen.

Of First Importance (Easter Sunday)

Of first importance: Life, hallelujah!
Life beyond understanding,
life renewed despite death,
life growing and changing,
life outside of time & flesh,
life created in blessing — hallelujah!

Of first importance: Grace, hallelujah!
Grace unhindered by guilt,
grace multiplying with love,
grace to comfort our hearts,
grace with partiality to joy,
grace upon grace upon grace — hallelujah!

Of first importance: Witness, hallelujah!
Witness unafraid to see death,
witness welcoming a stranger,
witness in a name and a face,
witness remaining til the end,
witness telling a new story before it unfolds — hallelujah!

Easter Sunday

Even before the dawn breaks,
you are with us.

Even while our spirits are broken,
you rebuild us.

Though we are too weary to run,
you renew us.

Though we are too slow to believe
but quickly ardent in idolization,
you remain our God.

When we barely remember our names
and all hope seems lost to the grave,
you love us forever.

Now the eyes of our hearts are opened
and the song on our lips is pure joy.
Beloved Resurrection!

Easter Sunday

Now Life is unencumbered by Death.
Let my feet & my heart skip freely!

Now Life is not overcast by shadows.
Let my eyes weep to welcome the sun!

Now Life is not hidden in caves and tombs.
Let my soul stop seeking and rejoice to recognize!

Alleluia! There is Life! Alleluia! Freedom has risen to dance!

Easter Sunday

Come, Lord Jesus!

For three days
and an eternity
we have been
languishing —

come, Lord Jesus!

Set among us
your rich feast
where all are fed
and comforted.

Come, Lord Jesus!

Do not hide in the
tomb or the garden
but be unrestrained
& boldly marvelous.

Come, Lord Jesus!

We have missed
your face — truly
failed to see and
to love you in all.

Come, Lord Jesus!

By your grace, let
life not be a vanity
nor our discipleship
an idle daydream.

Come, Lord Jesus!

Be our motivation
and morning star,
our deepest root
and loftiest poem!

Come, Lord Jesus!

Our sure foundation,
our impossible way
out of no way, our
only hope & savior!

Come, Lord Jesus!
