Not a door to open
But an angel to wrestle
Not an external action
But first an internal knowing
That restlessness trumps satisfaction
That wandering is more sacred than staying.
To know what is needed or where — in this,
You elude me, O God, for I have only hindsight
But I can attune my spirit to your agitation
And (strive to) live in discontentment.
Compel me inward and outward
Dislocate me, I pray (?!)
Even beyond Macedonia,
in Jesus’ name, by Jesus’ help.
A prayer based on Paul’s travel report in 2 Corinthians 2:12-13, “When I came to Troas to proclaim the good news of Christ, a door was opened for me in the Lord; but my mind could not rest because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said farewell to them and went on to Macedonia.”
Blessed are those …
who knock on the door they are most afraid of,
who cross the threshold into wise and spirit-ful company,
who close the door on the habit of isolation.
In rest and restlessness may the next step become clear.
