Contrition

We confess.

We confess that we harbor fear.
We confess that we choose suspicion and distrust.
We confess that we love sparingly.

We confess.

We confess that we expect injury.
We confess that we rush into, even seek out, war.
We confess that we value defensiveness.

We confess.

We confess that we prefer property to people.
We confess that we willfully interpret “neighbor” as “familiar.”
We confess that we view love as a foolish risk.

We confess.

We confess that we embrace divisive living.
We confess that we hold onto lies to hide from the unknown.
We confess that we want grace without accountability.

We confess, O God, we confess.

  1. Thank you Pastor Rachel. I know that you’ve moved from where I met you in Lancaster (with Seminary student Debora). So glad to have experienced your leadership and very much love your spirit, and the Contrition is so very timely. God bless you and keep you and yours, always.
